Algida (Unilever) required a comprehensive localization and innovation of its Gelateria Algida format within the Italian market. Operating in a conceptual and consultative capacity, Michele Ardoni served as an external strategic advisor for this initiative. All operational execution, final design decisions, and global network deployment strategies remained under the exclusive direction of Algida’s corporate management and ownership.
Strategic Rollout Architecture The advisory scope encompassed the conceptual design and strategic sequencing of the Italian market adaptation. The format deployment followed a calculated geographic progression, initiating in Naples, expanding to Turin, and culminating in the strategic flagship activation at Mirabilandia Amusement Park. Critically, the Mirabilandia deployment functioned as the global launch event for Algida’s international network—a curated presentation attended by worldwide network operators and corporate leadership, serving as the demonstrative prototype for global scalability.
Collaborative Design Innovation The spatial and technological conceptualization was developed in strategic collaboration with architect Agota Orban. Together, this partnership disrupted entrenched traditional foodservice format design conventions by abandoning static, rigid menu installations in favor of an integrated digital ecosystem.
Pioneering Digital Infrastructure Central to the advisory contribution was the conceptualization and strategic specification of the first dynamic digital menu board system within the Italian foodservice sector. This innovation represented a fundamental break from conventional physical menu fixtures. He advised on the architecture of proprietary software enabling centralized, real-time control of menu content across distributed locations. He also conceptualized the capability for location-specific pricing strategies and targeted messaging, providing the strategic framework for network-wide digital standardization that could be managed remotely.
Legacy & Industry Impact This strategic advisory engagement established a new paradigm for foodservice format design, transitioning the industry expectation from static physical environments to dynamic, software-driven customer interfaces. The Mirabilandia presentation served as the global proof-of-concept, demonstrating how localized format adaptation could be elevated to international scalability through technological integration.
