The projected growth in U.S. QSR franchise establishment counts through 2026 tells me the industry is still betting on unit expansion as the primary growth lever — but that strategy only holds if franchisee economics are healthy enough to sustain it. My concern is that top-line unit growth can mask underlying fragility: if AUVs aren't climbing proportionally, you're building a wider network on a weaker foundation. Franchisors and investors should be stress-testing franchisee P&Ls now, not celebrating the unit count.
