AI tools that promised frictionless labor replacement, demand forecasting, and personalized ordering have real operational ceilings — and franchisors who built their tech roadmaps around vendor promises rather than validated unit-level outcomes are now exposed. Smart operators will treat this moment as a forcing function to audit which AI investments are actually moving the needle on throughput, waste, or labor cost — and which are simply adding complexity to an already lean operation.
